Objective

Four Agency was looking for a way to create a physical replica of an object for presentation. They wanted to give audiences a way to hold it in their hands without knowing it wasn’t the real thing. This required a photogrammetry model of an object - an ancient stone Buddha statue- and post-production so that the object could be 3D printed.

Approach

The object was meticulously photographed and the images were then processed into a textured 3D model. The only post-processing required was to make sure that a 3D print would come out cleanly. This meant making sure that there were no holes or issues with the mesh that could cause mistakes in the printing.

Result

The final result was a cleaned 3D model, checked in specialised software, such as Softonic Meshmixer and Lychee Slicer, to ensure that it would print cleanly. The model was converted and sent in a format that was compatible for 3D printer software.

Innovation

A 3D-printed replica of an object is a great way to create accessibility to objects that are otherwise behind glass or too fragile to be handled. Object photogrammetry is quite straightforward and therefore quite an affordable option for those seeking ways to make their collections more engaging and interactive.
